pharmachologic effect

When applied topically, it has a vasoconstrictor effect. When introduced into the nasal cavity, it reduces swelling and redness of the mucous membrane of the upper respiratory tract, restores nasal breathing, and reduces the amount of mucus to be separated.

Indications for use

Difficulty in nasal breathing with colds, inflammation of the sinuses, hay fever, allergic rhinitis. To facilitate rhinoscopy and other manipulations in the nasopharynx. Stagnation and conjunctival edema.

Dosage and administration

Adults and children of school age are recommended 1-2 drops of the drug or 1 spray of aerosol in each nostril 2-3 times a day.

Children aged 1 to 7 years – 1-2 drops in each nostril 1-2 times a day. In case of stagnation and edema of the conjunctiva, 1-2 drops are instilled into each eye (except for Noxspray). Independently in the recommended dosage, the drug can be used for no more than 3 days. If no improvement is observed during this time, consult a doctor.  

Side effects

Transient dryness and burning of the nasal passages, dry mouth and throat, sneezing. With prolonged use of the drug, redness of the mucosa is possible.

Contraindications

Inflammation of the nasal mucosa without secretion, angle-closure glaucoma, pregnancy, chronic heart failure, increased thyroid function, hypersensitivity to the drug, children under 1 year old.

Overdose

Pupillary constriction, nausea, vomiting, cyanosis, fever, tachycardia, arrhythmia, collapse, vascular insufficiency, hypertension, respiratory failure, pulmonary edema, cardiac arrest. Mental disorders, stimulation or depression of the central nervous system are possible, accompanied by drowsiness, a decrease in body temperature, bradycardia, arterial hypotension, respiratory arrest and the possible development of coma.

Treatment . Gastric lavage, intake of activated charcoal, mechanical ventilation (mechanical ventilation). With an increase in blood pressure , the administration of phentolamine. If necessary , anticonvulsant therapy.
