pharmachologic effect

Vinpocetine has a beneficial effect on blood circulation and brain metabolism, as well as on the rheological properties of blood. It has a neuroprotective (cerebroprotective) effect.

Indications for use

In neurology: cerebral circulation insufficiency accompanied by neurological or mental disorders – transient ischemic attack, ischemic stroke, post-stroke condition, vascular dementia, atherosclerosis, post-traumatic and hypertensive encephalopathy, vertebrobasilar insufficiency.    

In ophthalmology: chronic vascular diseases of the choroid and retina. 

In otiatrics: hearing loss of vascular, toxic or other genesis, Meniere’s disease, idiopathic tinnitus. 

Method of administration and dosage

Usually 1 tablet (5 mg) 3 times a day. The course of treatment is 1-8 months, on average 3-4 months.   

If the drug is discontinued, the dose of Cavinton is reduced gradually over a period of 2-3 days.

In the acute period of the disease, it is recommended to start treatment with parenteral administration of the drug. After the end of the course of infusion therapy, treatment is recommended to continue orally in a dose of 1-2 tablets (5-10 mg) 3 times a day after meals. 

Side effects

Allergic skin reactions, sleep disturbances, dizziness, headache, weakness, increased sweating, slight fluctuations in blood pressure (mainly downward) are possible.

Contraindications

The period of pregnancy and lactation, hypersensitivity to vinpocetine or other components of the drug, acute phase of hemorrhagic stroke, severe coronary artery disease and arrhythmias.
