pharmachologic effect

A drug in the form of eye drops, used to reduce intraocular pressure in various ophthalmic diseases.

Indications for use

The drug is used to reduce increased ophthalmotonus (intraocular pressure) in patients with various forms of glaucoma.

Method of administration and dosage

Doses of the drug and the duration of the course of treatment are determined by the attending physician individually. Usually, 1 drop of the drug is prescribed 2 times a day. At the beginning of therapy, Arutimol 0.25 % is usually prescribed . In case of insufficient decrease in intraocular pressure, they switch to the use of the drug Arutimol 0.5 %. After stabilization of intraocular pressure during drug therapy, the dose is reduced to 1 drop 1 time per day.   

Side effects

Visual impairment, inflammation of the eyelid and conjunctiva, keratitis, dry eye syndrome, increased lacrimation. In addition, in isolated cases, the development of diplopia and blepharoptosis was noted .

Contraindications

Increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug; BA, including a history, a tendency to bronchospasm; severe chronic diseases of the respiratory tract, which are accompanied by obstruction; allergic rhinitis; corneal lesions associated with circulatory disorders; sinus bradycardia and sick sinus syndrome. The drug is contraindicated in patients with atrioventricular block II and III degree and heart failure, as well as in patients with cardiogenic shock; the drug is not prescribed to patients receiving therapy with other local beta – blockers and taking drugs of the calcium antagonist group; the drug is not used to treat patients who have an increase in ophthalmotonus at night.

Overdose

When using the drug in doses exceeding the recommended ones, side effects may develop, including dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bronchospasm, arrhythmias.

In case of an overdose of the drug, rinsing the eyes with a large amount of running water or saline is indicated. There is no specific antidote, if necessary, symptomatic therapy is performed.
