pharmachologic effect
Almagel provides fast and long-term neutralization of hydrochloric acid and reduces the activity of pepsin in the stomach, while the pH of the gastric juice does not exceed 5–6.
Indications for use
They are used both as monotherapy and in complex therapy of inflammatory and erosive changes in the mucous membranes of the esophagus, stomach, or duodenum in the following diseases: gastritis, esophagitis, duodenitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, hernia of the esophageal opening, gastric and duodenal ulcer reflux (heartburn).
Dosage and administration
It is taken orally 10 minutes before a meal or 1.5–2 hours after a meal, or as needed.
Adults and children over the age of 15 years are recommended to take 5-10 ml (1-2 scoops) 3 times a day. If necessary, the dose can be increased to 15 ml (3 scoops). Children aged 10-15 years are prescribed half the recommended dose for adults. The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor.
Side effects
Changes in taste sensations, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation, discoloration of feces can be noted.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the substances that make up the drug; severe renal impairment; intestinal obstruction; suspected appendicitis; bleeding from the digestive canal of an unknown genesis; ulcerative colitis; conditions causing disturbances in the water – electrolyte balance; age up to 10 years.
Overdose
Long-term use in high doses can cause constipation or diarrhea, phosphorus deficiency syndrome.
In patients with renal failure, neurotoxicity, osteomalacia, osteoporosis, hypermagnesemia, and electrolyte imbalance may occur.
