pharmachologic effect

It has a secretolitic and secretomotor effect in the bronchial tract. Reduces sputum viscosity, increases mucus evacuation.

Indications for use

Acute and chronic inflammatory diseases of the trachea, bronchi, lungs, bronchiectasis, pneumoconiosis; in the pre – and postoperative period, the drug is used for bronchography. 

Dosage and administration

The drug in the form of a solution and in the form of dragees is prescribed orally after a meal with a sufficient amount of liquid. Children under 6 years old, as well as patients with body weight ≤ 50 kg: 4–8 mg 3 times a day; 6-14 years: 8 mg 3 times a day; children over 14 years old and adults: – 8–16 mg (1–2 tablets) of the drug 3 times a day, which corresponds to 24–48 mg of bromhexine hydrochloride per day. The duration of treatment is set individually (should not exceed 4-5 days). In case of impaired renal function or severe liver disease, the dose of the drug must be reduced.      

Side effects

Nausea, vomiting, digestive disorders, exacerbation of peptic ulcer, Quincke’s edema, increased levels of transaminases in the blood serum.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the drug, the period of pregnancy and lactation.

Relative contraindications are peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum, diseases of the bronchi, accompanied by excessive accumulation of bronchial secretions, impaired renal function, severe liver disease.

Overdose

Symptoms . Vomiting, impaired consciousness, ataxia, diplopia, tachypnea, mild metabolic acidosis. In severe overdose should be monitored indicators of cardio – vascular system, symptomatic therapy.
