Polyenzyme preparation. The composition of the drug includes lipase, amylase and protease, which facilitate the digestion of fats, carbohydrates and proteins, which contributes to their complete absorption in the small intestine. The drug compensates for the lack of exocrine pancreatic function.

Indications for use

Lack of exocrine pancreatic function in adults and children, due to the following conditions: cystic fibrosis; chronic pancreatitis; pancreatectomy ; gastrectomy ; pancreas cancer; operation with the imposition of the gastro – intestinal anastomosis; obstruction of the pancreatic or common bile duct (eg, tumor); Schwachman -Diamond syndrome ; other diseases accompanied by exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. 

Method of administration and dosage

Dosing of Creon is based on the individual needs of the patient and depends on the degree of indigestion and the composition of the food. To determine the adequate individual dose, there are three doses of the drug: Creon 10,000, Creon 25,000, Creon 40,000. The drug should be taken with meals.

Capsules and mini-spherical granules should be swallowed whole and washed down with a sufficient amount of liquid. If the capsule cannot be swallowed whole (children and the elderly), it can be opened and mini-spherical granules can be added to liquid food that does not require chewing, or to liquid with a neutral or slightly acidic medium (yogurt, grated apple, etc.). During treatment with the drugs Creon 10,000, Creon 25,000, Creon 40,000, it is very important to consume a sufficient amount of fluid, especially during the period of its increased loss. Fluid deficiency can cause constipation.

Side effects

Often – abdominal pain, infrequently – constipation, changes in the nature of bowel movements, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, skin allergic reactions or hypersensitivity reactions may occur.  

Contraindications

Acute pancreatitis and hypersensitivity to porcine pancreatin or to any other component of the drug.

Overdose

When taken in extremely high doses of other pancreatin preparations, hyperuricemia and hyperuricosuria were noted .
