pharmachologic effect
Under the action of the drug, both the concentration and the amount of gastric juice decrease, and the secretion of pepsin corresponds to the amount of gastric juice released.
Indications for use
Peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum in the acute phase in the absence of Helicobacter pylori , reflux – esophagitis, Zollinger – Ellison syndrome , before general anesthesia to prevent aspiration of gastric contents into the lungs (Mendelssohn’s syndrome), especially in childbirth, non-ulcerative gastrointestinal disorders , in chronic stages of exacerbation.
Method of administration and dosage
Pills . Inside for peptic ulcers of the stomach and duodenum , 0.04 g (2 tablets) 1 time per day before bedtime or 0.02 g (1 tablet) 2 times a day for 4-8 weeks. After achieving a therapeutic effect for 2-4 weeks, the drug must be taken in a maintenance dose (0.5 therapeutic dose).
For prophylaxis , 0.02 g is prescribed once a day before bedtime.
With reflux – esophagitis, the dose of the drug is set individually. An initial dose of 0.02 g is taken every 6 hours.
With Zollinger – Ellison syndrome , 0.02–0.04 g is taken 4 times a day.
With severe renal dysfunction, the dose is reduced.
Side effects
Rarely – headache, dizziness, diarrhea or constipation, allergic reactions are possible.
Contraindications
Renal failure, hypersensitivity to the drug, pregnancy and lactation, age up to 14 years.
Overdose
The use of Famotidine, administered at a dose of 800 mg per day for 1 year to patients with pathological secretion of gastric juice, did not cause severe side effects. Treatment. Gastric lavage, symptomatic or supportive therapy, patient observation.
