pharmachologic effect

Vaseline oil (liquid paraffin) is a laxative that softens stool. Practically not absorbed after oral administration; by increasing the volume of intestinal contents, it also stimulates bowel movement. 

Indications for use

Chronic constipation.

Method of administration and dosage

Inside for 1-2 tbsp. l. per day in between meals; also used as a basis for ointments, drops. 

Side effects

Nausea, anorexia, hypovitaminosis A, D, K, irritation and itching in the anus.

Contraindications

Peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum, acute inflammatory and destructive diseases of the abdominal organs, pregnancy, hemorrhoids.
