pharmachologic effect
Contact laxative. Stimulates the sensitive nerve endings of the intestinal mucosa, increasing its contractions.
Indications for use
Constipation associated with diet, immobility, pregnancy, excessive weight, cardio – vascular system and metabolic disorders. It is used to facilitate bowel movement in patients suffering from hemorrhoids, anal fissures, in the pre- and postoperative period, in obstetric and gynecological practice.
Method of administration and dosage
Adults and children over 10 years of age are prescribed 5-10 mg; children 4–10 years old – 2.5–5 mg, children under 4 years old are recommended to dose at the rate of 1 drop per 2 kg of body weight. For children, the drug can be added to drinks. Can be used in the morning or at bedtime.
Side effects
Bloating, increased bowel contractions, diarrhea.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, intestinal obstruction, abdominal pain of unknown origin, acute surgical pathology of the abdominal organs, dehydration.
Overdose
Symptoms When taken in high doses, diarrhea, intestinal cramps, and significant loss of potassium and other electrolytes are observed. Like other laxatives, prolonged overdose leads to chronic diarrhea and abdominal pain, hypokalemia .
Treatment. Symptomatic.
