Indications for use
Treatment of iron deficiency in the body.
Method of administration and dosage
The drops are taken orally (by mouth) immediately before meals or during meals, with a small amount of liquid.
The daily dose is calculated depending on the hemoglobin level, body weight and age of the patient. It is recommended to take 1.3-4 mg of iron per 1 kg of body weight daily .
Children under 1 year: 10 -15 drops 3 times a day. Children from 1 to 2 years: 15 -25 drops 3 times a day. Children 2 to 6 years: 25 -35 drops 3 times a day. Children over 6 years old and adults should take the drug in the form of syrup and capsules. The recommended course of treatment is 8 weeks.
Side effects
A feeling of heaviness in the stomach, flatulence, constipation or diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, anaphylaxis, rash, exanthema, urticaria, itching, staining of tooth enamel. Against the background of treatment with the drug, a dark color of the stool is possible, due to the release of iron along with feces.
Contraindications
Increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug, hemosiderosis, hemochromatosis , anemia, not caused by iron deficiency in the body; sideroachrestic anemia, lead poisoning anemia; hemolytic and aplastic anemia; simultaneous use of parenteral forms of iron, esophageal stenosis and / or other obstructive diseases of the digestive tract, intestinal obstruction, regular blood transfusion.
Overdose
Symptoms Overdose is indicated by abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, cyanosis, confusion, symptoms of hyperventilation. In young children, the risk of acute iron toxicity is particularly high. Life-threatening intoxication occurs when taking 1 g of ferrous sulfate. Overdose symptoms are nausea, severe pain in the stomach, diarrhea and vomiting with blood, the development of cyanosis, impaired consciousness and hyperpnea as a result of acidosis and impaired peripheral circulation. Remission usually occurs after about 4-6 hours. In the future, after 12–48 hours, severe shock may develop, which may be accompanied by Cheyne – Stokes respiration, oliguria, toxic liver failure, and coagulopathy .
Treatment. Before specific therapy, consume milk, raw eggs. Symptomatic treatment: stomach wash water or a solution of baking soda or phosphate – buffered saline. Treat shock and acidosis if necessary.
Patients with symptoms of acute iron overdose are prescribed deferoxamine ( desferal ) internally and parenterally (IM and IV ). With oliguria, anuria, peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis is prescribed .
