pharmachologic effect

Improves microcirculation and rheological properties of blood. It has a vasodilating effect and improves the supply of oxygen to tissues. It prevents platelets from sticking together and leads to the destruction of their aggregates, increases the elasticity of erythrocytes, and reduces blood viscosity.

Indications for use

Atherosclerotic encephalopathy, ischemic stroke, dyscirculatory encephalopathy, peripheral circulatory disorders caused by atherosclerosis, diabetes mellitus, inflammation; trophic tissue disorders caused by damage to arteries or veins, impaired microcirculation; obliterating endarteritis; angioneuropathy; violation of the blood circulation of the eye; dysfunction of the inner ear of a vascular nature, accompanied by hearing loss.

Dosage and administration

Assign inside, in / in and intra-arterially. Inside take, starting with 0.2 g 3 times a day after meals, without chewing. After the onset of a therapeutic effect (usually after 1-2 weeks), the dose is reduced to 0.1 g 3 times a day. The course of treatment is 2-3 weeks or more.

0.1 g (1 ampoule) is injected intravenously in 250–500 ml of isotonic ‑solution of sodium chloride or 5% glucose solution for 90–180 minutes. The daily dose can be further increased to 0.2–0.3 g.

Side effects

Nausea, vomiting, heaviness in the epigastric region, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, aseptic meningitis, anxiety, sleep disturbances, flushing of the skin of the face, flushing, tachycardia, angina pectoris, arterial hypotension, pruritus, rash, urticaria, angioedema.

Contraindications

Acute myocardial infarction, massive bleeding, acute hemorrhagic stroke, retinal hemorrhage, hypersensitivity to pentoxifylline and other methylxanthine derivatives; pregnancy, breastfeeding.

Overdose

Flushing of the skin of the face, arterial hypotension, clonic ‑tonic convulsions, loss of consciousness, vomiting of the color of coffee grounds, fever. Along with symptomatic therapy and gastric lavage, special attention is paid to the control and maintenance of respiratory function, blood pressure and the elimination of seizures.
