Tropisetron

pharmachologic effect

Has an antiemetic effect.

Indications for use

Prevention of nausea and vomiting resulting from emetogenic anticancer chemotherapy; elimination of nausea and vomiting that occur in the postoperative period; prevention of nausea and vomiting after gynecological intra-abdominal surgical interventions.

Method of administration and dosage

In order to prevent nausea and vomiting resulting from anticancer chemotherapy in children over 2 years of age, the   recommended dose of Tropisetron is 0.2 mg / kg; the maximum daily dose is up to 5 mg.   

Tropisetron may be administered in the form p – pa for intake immediately after dilution appropriate amount tropisetron, contained in an ampoule, orange juice or cola; the solution must be taken in the morning 1 hour before meals. 

For adults, the   drug is recommended in the form of 6 – day courses of 5 mg per day. 

To eliminate and nausea prevention and vomiting arising during the postoperative period, adults   recommend / in a tropisetron at a dose of 2 mg or as an infusion (after dilution infusion p – ramie) or as a slow injection (for at least 30 seconds) … To prevent nausea and vomiting that occur in the postoperative period, Tropisetron should be used shortly before the introduction of anesthesia. 

Side effects

Headache, constipation, dizziness, increased fatigue, abdominal pain, diarrhea, rarely – immediate hypersensitivity reactions; collapse, fainting. 

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to Tropisetron, pregnancy, lactation. With caution in cirrhosis of the liver or impaired renal function, cardiac arrhythmias and conduction disorders.

Overdose

Symptoms   With repeated use of Tropisetron in very high doses, visual hallucinations were observed; in patients with previous hypertension, an increase in blood pressure was noted. 

Treatment.   Symptomatic, under constant monitoring of vital body functions.
