Ventolin has an effect on the adrenergic receptors of the smooth muscles of the bronchi, causing a pronounced bronchodilatory effect and practically without affecting the adrenergic receptors of the myocardium. Pharmacological action continues for 4 hours after administration.

After the use of inhalation forms, the action develops quickly, the onset of the effect – after 5 minutes, maximum – after 30–90 minutes (75% of the maximum effect is achieved within 5 minutes), duration – 4–6 hours.

The drug is available in the following forms:

  • Tablets – 20, 50 and 100 pcs. in 1 package, 1 tab. contain 2 and 4 mg of salbutamol.
  • 150 ml syrup in a bottle – 2 mg in 1 ml.
  • Two-layer tablets 0.008 g, 20 or 50 pcs. packaged.
  • Syrup for internal administration – 2 mg in 2 ml, in a bottle of 50 ml.

Ventolin for inhalation:

  • Nebula (dosed aerosol in plastic ampoules) – 200 doses in 1 bottle. 2.5 ml in a nebula.
  • Dosed aerosol without freons (chlorofluorocarbons, which destroy the ozone layer) – 200 doses in 1 bottle. 100mcg salbutamol in 1 dose.

Indications for use

What does Ventolin help from? The drug is prescribed in the following cases:

  • relief of attacks of bronchial asthma, incl. with exacerbation of severe bronchial asthma;
  • prevention of bouts of bronchospasm associated with exposure to an allergen or caused by exercise;
  • use as one of the components in long-term maintenance therapy of bronchial asthma.
  • chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), accompanied by reversible airway obstruction, chronic bronchitis.

Nebula

not intended for injection. Ventolin is administered by inhalation using a nebulizer with a mask, endotracheal or T-shaped tube. With hypoventilation, there may be a risk of hypoxia, then the inhaled air can be enriched with oxygen.

Nebula are applied without dilution, but if you need long-term inhalation (more than ten minutes), you can dilute with sterile 0.9% sodium chloride solution.

The drug should be used in well-ventilated areas, since part of the drug is inhaled into the environment. This is especially important in a hospital setting, where several patients can use nebulizers at the same time.

The initial dosage of Ventolin when administered by inhalation using a nebulizer is 2.5 milligrams, but if necessary, it can be increased to five milligrams. Inhalation can be done up to four times a day. In a hospital setting, with severe airway obstruction, the dose for adult patients can be increased to 40 mg / day.

The clinical efficacy of use in children under eighteen months of age by administration through a nebulizer has not been investigated.

Spray can

The inhalation aerosol is designed to be used 200 times. Can be used by adults and children from 2 years old.

For the purpose of long-term maintenance therapy, adults are usually prescribed 200 mcg up to 4 times a day. To prevent bronchospasm in childhood, 100-200 μg is used (1-2 inhalations).

Before using the aerosol can, remove the cap from the mouthpiece, make sure that the mouthpiece is clean, shake the can vigorously several times. After which the mouthpiece is inserted into the mouth, wrapped around the lips. Now you should make a deep and slow exhalation through the nose.

Side effects

Contraindications

It is contraindicated to prescribe Ventolin in the following cases:

  • hypersensitivity to any component of the drug;
  • management of preterm labor;
  • threatening abortion;
  • children under 2 years of age.

With caution: tachyarrhythmia, myocarditis, heart defects, aortic stenosis, coronary artery disease, severe chronic heart failure, arterial hypertension, thyrotoxicosis, pheochromocytoma, decompensated diabetes mellitus, glaucoma, epileptic attacks, renal or hepatic failure, concomitant use of adrenoblockers, β-blockers lactation.

Overdose

Overdose symptoms:

  • tachycardia,
