pharmachologic effect

Class III antiarrhythmic drug with analgesic effect. It has antiarrhythmic and antianginal effects.

Indications for use

Treatment and prevention of paroxysmal arrhythmias, extrasystoles ; rehabilitation period after myocardial infarction.

Dosage and administration

Tablets, capsules. For adults , when prescribing the drug orally, the dosing regimen includes two phases – in phase I, the drug is prescribed in a daily dose of 0.4-0.6 g for 8-15 days. In a hospital, seriously ill patients, if necessary, may be prescribed the drug in a daily dose of up to 1.2 g.

When signs of saturation are reached, the dose is reduced to 0.4-0.6 g per day for 1 month and proceed to phase II (maintenance therapy). The average daily dose is 0.2–0.4 g per day. If necessary, increase or decrease the dose.

Children are prescribed at an initial daily dose of 8-10 mg / kg for 8-15 days until the initial therapeutic effect is achieved, then the dose is reduced to maintenance.

Side effects

Nausea, feeling of heaviness in the epigastric region, bradycardia, slowing of AV ‑conduction, arterial hypotension, skin allergic reactions, uveitis, photosensitivity.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to amiodarone and other components of the drug, iodine, sinus bradycardia, sick sinus syndrome, AV ‑block II-III degree, severe arterial hypotension, collapse, shock, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, lactation period.

Overdose

Symptoms. Sinus bradycardia, AV ‑block, cardiogenic shock, collapse, asystole, paroxysmal ventricular tachycardia, including pirouette type, liver damage.

Treatment. It is aimed at removing the substance from the body and restoring the function of the ‑cardiovascular system. General measures: gastric lavage. General resuscitation measures: chest compressions, artificial respiration, pacing , defibrillation. Hemodialysis is not indicated. It is possible to carry out hemofiltration and plasmapheresis.
