pharmachologic effect
Acetylsalicylic acid has antipyretic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antiplatelet effects.
Indications for use
Headache of various origins. Rheumatism, rheumatoid arthritis, infectious – allergic myocarditis, pain syndrome of low and medium intensity of various origins, fever in infectious – inflammatory diseases. For the prevention of myocardial infarction in patients with high risk of cardio – vascular complications and those with multifactorial risk of heart – vascular diseases.
Method of administration and dosage
The drug is administered orally. As an antipyretic and pain reliever, adults are prescribed a single dose of 500-1000 mg, the maximum daily dose is 3 g. A single dose, if necessary, is taken 3 times a day with an interval of 4-8 hours. For rheumatoid diseases, a maximum daily dose of 3-4 g is prescribed . …
Children from 5 to 7 years old are prescribed in a single dose of 200-250 mg, the maximum daily dose is 750 mg; from 7 to 14 years old – 300-500 mg, the maximum daily dose – 1.5 g; frequency of admission – 2-3 times a day.
The duration of treatment is set individually, when prescribed as an analgesic and as an antipyretic, it should not exceed 7 days. Acetylsalicylic acid should be taken after meals, tablets are recommended to be taken with plenty of liquid.
Side effects
The most common are nausea, anorexia, epigastric pain, microhemorrhages in the gastrointestinal tract; sometimes with prolonged use of high doses of the drug, erosive – ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, gastric bleeding, accompanied by melena, are possible. With individual hypersensitivity to salicylates – allergic reactions in the form of skin rashes, urticaria, in patients with BA – an increase in the frequency of attacks of bronchospasm.
Contraindications
Hemorrhagic diathesis, bleeding, simultaneous treatment with anticoagulants, glucose deficiency – 6 – phosphate dehydrogenase, asthma, hypersensitivity to salicylates and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, chronic recurrent disease of the stomach and duodenal ulcers, renal dysfunction, thrombocytopenia, gipotrombinemiya , aortic aneurysm.
Acetylsalicylic acid should not be prescribed to children and adolescents under the age of 14 who are sick or are recovering from chickenpox, influenza or respiratory diseases, due to the risk of acute hepatic encephalopathy, during pregnancy (first and last trimesters), during breastfeeding. Reception under the age of 3 years is contraindicated.
Overdose
Symptoms With mild intoxication, dizziness, ringing in the ears occur, nausea, vomiting, pain in the epigastric region are possible.
Overdose is most likely in elderly patients and children.
Treatment . Gastric lavage is indicated if a little time has passed after taking the drug in an excessive dose; in the future – symptomatic treatment aimed at correcting the acid – base equilibrium (CDF), electrolyte balance and elimination of toxic symptoms. There is no specific antidote.
