It has a pronounced anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effect.

Indications for use

Diseases accompanied by pain syndromes: osteoarthritis, osteoarthritis, degenerative joint diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, post-traumatic pain, algodismenorrhea.

Method of administration and dosage

The drug is prescribed for adults orally with a small amount of liquid once a day.   

With osteoarthritis – 7.5 mg per day, if necessary, the dose can be increased to 15 mg per day.    

For rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis: 15 mg once a day, depending on the therapeutic effect, the dose can be reduced to 7.5 mg once a day. Patients with a high risk of side effects and patients on dialysis should start treatment with a dose of 7.5 mg once a day. The maximum daily dose of meloxicam for adults is 15 mg. The duration of the course of treatment is determined individually.         

The combined use of: total daily dose of the drug when administered in the form of tablets or p – pa injection should not exceed 15 mg. The duration of the course of treatment depends on the nature of the disease and the effectiveness of the therapy.   

Side effects

Dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence; transient violations of the biochemical parameters of liver function, belching, esophagitis, gastroduodenal ulcer; gastrointestinal perforation, colitis, hepatitis, gastritis. Allergic reactions.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the drug. It should not be prescribed to patients who have a history of asthma symptoms, nasal mucosa polyps, angioedema, urticaria after the appointment of acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs. Active peptic ulcer. Severe liver and kidney failure (without dialysis). Age up to 15 years. Pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Overdose

Overdose manifests itself in the form of increased side effects. In this case, gastric lavage and general supportive measures are recommended. There is no specific antidote.
