pharmachologic effect

It increases the tone of the respiratory muscles, reduces the resistance of the pulmonary vessels, activates the respiratory center of the medulla oblongata, improves alveolar ventilation, eliminates angiospasm, increases collateral blood flow, reduces cerebral edema, and reduces cerebrospinal fluid pressure.

Indications for use

Treatment and prevention of bronchospasm associated with AD and COPD.

Dosage and administration

The dose is set individually. Neophylline in tablets of 100/300 mg should be taken 1 time a day in the morning or in the evening. The drug is recommended to be taken with meals. In the future, the regimen of taking the drug should be observed.  

Side effects

Abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, gastroesophageal reflux, heartburn, exacerbation of peptic ulcer, diarrhea, decreased appetite; palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmia, decreased blood pressure, cardialgia , increased frequency of angina attacks; dizziness, headache, anxiety, agitation, sleep disturbance, tremors, delirium, convulsions, convulsions.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, acute period of myocardial infarction, tachyarrhythmia, hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy , severe hypertension, epilepsy, hyperthyroidism, peptic ulcer of the stomach or duodenum, severe liver dysfunction, porphyria, pregnancy, age up to 12 years. With caution and only if absolutely necessary, for patients with unstable angina, hypertension and patients over the age of 60 years, with heart disease, tachyarrhythmic heart rhythm disturbances.

Overdose

Symptoms . Tremor, nausea, vomiting, repeated vomiting (sometimes with blood); imbalance of electrolytes, including hypokalemia , hyperglycemia, metabolic acidosis, hypophosphatemia , hypercalcemia, respiratory alkalosis, hyperventilation; abdominal pain, diarrhea, delirium, in especially severe cases – cardiac arrhythmias (tachyarrhythmia), a sharp decrease in blood pressure, dementia, toxic psychosis, symptoms of acute pancreatitis, rhabdomoolysis associated with renal failure, convulsions.
