pharmachologic effect

GCS with a pronounced local anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, antipruritic and antiexudative effect.

Indications for use

Inhalation application : AD of various origins, chronic obstructive bronchitis; intranasal use:   seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, vasomotor rhinitis, prevention of nasal polyp growth after polypectomy , non-infectious inflammatory processes in the nasal cavity; ingestion:   induction of remission in patients with a mild or moderate form of Crohn’s disease involving the ileum and / or ascending colon.

Dosage and administration

Inhalation

Adults:   400 -1600 mg per day in 2-4 reception, followed by 200-400 mg 2 times a day, during the exacerbation – up to 1600 micrograms per day. Children – 50-200 mcg per day in 2 divided doses, the maximum dose is 400 mcg per day.         

Intranasally

Adults and children 6 years and older:   200 mcg in each nasal passage 1 time per day in the morning, the total daily dose is 400 mcg. When the clinical effect is achieved, the dose is reduced. The maximum dose for children is 400 mcg per day, for adults – 800 mcg per day.         

Inside

3 mg 3 times a day 30 minutes before meals. The duration of oral administration is usually 8 weeks, the maximum therapeutic effect develops after 2–4 weeks from the start of treatment. Reception of budesonide cannot be stopped suddenly, it should be canceled gradually. 

Side effects

Inhalation application : hoarseness, throat irritation or reflex cough, candidiasis of the oral cavity and upper respiratory tract. Intranasal application:   sensation burning, dryness, irritation of the nasal mucosa, rhinorrhea, nasal bleeding, sneezing, itchy throat, headache, sore throat, allergic reactions.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to budesonide ; relative contraindications are viral, fungal and bacterial infections, the period of pregnancy, severe liver failure. Patients with tuberculosis, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis, peptic ulcer of the stomach, glaucoma, cataract, as well as patients with diabetes mellitus or glaucoma in a family history require special attention for oral administration of the drug.

Overdose

In acute drug overdose, clinical manifestations do not occur.
