pharmachologic effect

It has a strong and long-lasting (5 to 8 hours) bronchodilator effect.

Indications for use

Acute asthma attacks, chronic obstructive bronchitis.

Dosage and administration

The drug is intended for inhalation by inhalation through the mouth with a nebulizer, it should be used under medical supervision. The solution should not be injected or swallowed.

Adults . The usual initial inhaled dose of salbutamol is 2.5 mg. It can be increased to 5 mg. Repeat inhalation 4 times a day. For the treatment of adult patients with severe airway obstruction, the dose may be increased to 40 mg per day.   

Children over 12 years old . Doses for adults.

Children aged 4 to 11 years . The usual initial inhaled dose of salbutamol is 2.5 mg. It can be increased to 5 mg. Repeat inhalation 4 times a day.  

Children under the age of 4 years: other dosage forms of the drug   should be used.

Side effects

Tremor, headache; very rarely – hyperactivity, tachycardia; infrequently – a feeling of increased heartbeat, a violation of the heart rhythm, including ventricular fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia and extrasystole; frequency unknown – myocardial ischemia.   

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity in the anamnesis to the components of the drug, the threat of miscarriage, lactation.

Overdose

Symptoms . Tachycardia, tremors, hyperactivity, hypokalemia .
